New Recoil album ‘subHuman’: full details revealed

New Recoil album subHuman: full details revealed

New Recoil album 'subHuman': full details revealed

Side-Line just received the full details of the new Recoil album “subHuman” out on CD/CD&DVD/2LP via Mute Records on July 6th. The first details show that the track previously announced by Side-Line as “Pray” is in fact titled “Prey” (see below for the full tracklist). It is now also clear how Alan Wilder (ex-Depeche Mode got in touch with the rather unknown bluesman Joe Richardson, simly by googling the terms “bluesinger/songwriter”. The first sessions for the album (see cover artwork)took place in May 2006 with Wilder, Paul ‘PK’ Kendall (engineer and sounddesigner) and Hepzibah Sessa (Wilders wife and personal assistant) in the Texas Treeford Studios in Austin (USA). Wilder was joined by drummer Richard Lamm and bassist John Wolfe. The tracklist for the album is as follows:

  1. Prey
  2. Allelujah
  3. 5000 Years
  4. The Killing Ground
  5. Intruders
  6. 99 To Life
  7. Backslider

First track new Recoil album “subHuman” revealed

In a second video message on YouTube, Alan Wilder (ex-Depeche Mode) has offered a first preview of a track taken from the new upcoming Recoil album “subHuman”. The track, titled “Prey” (and not “Pray” as reported earlier), holds guestvocals by Joe Richardson, leadsinger of The Joe Richardson Express, and will be available as a special singleedit. The song itself is a good example of the electro blues Recoil has become famous for and holds a close sonic resemblance to his work on the 1997 Recoil album “Unsound methods”. “subHuman” has been mastered by Simon Heyworth of the Devon based company Super Audio Mastering (the studio responsible for re-mastering the Depeche Mode backcatalogue) while Alan Wilder and PK (aka Paul Kendall) worked on the 5.1 Surround Sound version. This 5.1 Surround Sound version will be included on a special collector’s DVD package holding an enhanced stereo CD, the 5.1 Surround Sound version and an exclusive ambient re-working of the entire album next to all the Recoil videos to date.

Recoil to release new album subHuman in July

Recoil to release new album subHuman in July

Recoil to release new album subHuman in July

The news first got out earlier than planned via the Russian label Gala Records which is responsible for distributing the EMI catalogue in Russia, and has now been confirmed this weekend by the Recoil headquarters as well: a new Recoil album titled “subHuman” is planned to be released on July 2nd via Mute. The albums marks the return of the formerDepeche Mode member Alan Wilder after a 6 year break from recording. “subHuman” will be Recoil’s 5th studio album. The release will be available on CD and limited edition gatefold vinyl. A special collector’s DVD package will also be issued to include an enhanced stereo CD, a 5.1 Surround Sound version and an exclusive ambient re-working of the entire album. The DVD will also include all the Recoil videos to date. Collaborating with Recoil is Blues-man Joe Richardson, whose “evocative vocal style is complimented by accomplished guitar and harmonica performances”. Born in Southern Louisiana, Richardson spent years immersed in the murkier side of New Orleans life and offers what Mute calls “a unique commentary on conflict, religion, incarceration and personal struggle”. Also included on the disc is English singer Carla Trevaskis. She already confirmed on her MySpace a few days ago that she had been working on 2 Recoil tracks. In the past Trevaskis collaborated with artists as diverse as Fred de Faye (Eurythmics), Cliff Hewitt (Apollo 440) and Dave McDonald (Portishead). At the moment the Recoil webhub ‘Shunt’ is being rebuilt, the page currently offers the official press release.
