In the right lower corner of the backside of the CD tray of the regular CD format, there’s a logo that says “Songs in the key of space”. When we contacted Mute about this, they did not want to comment… Does someone has an idea what it actually means ? Below is the backside of the CD tray and the logo itself in detail.
Some fans say it’s linked to lyrics, but adding a special logo just for that does not make any sense, especially not when it’s that ugly
.

Maybe it’s like Playing the Angel when they said “pain in suffering in varies tempos”?
*and
* various
On 12″ imports to the US, there use to always be a few words scratched into the vinyl in the blank area between the label and end of the grooves. (New Order 12″s too.) On Get the Balance Right, it said “It’s what we in the biz call a combo mix.” Someone told me it was to catch counterfit copies. Maybe this is something like that????
It’s a play on Stevie Wonder’s “Songs In The Key Of Life”
Universe SPACE martin has said the new album has a Retro Sci Fi feel to it That logo has a retro SCi Fi theme to it. It’s just like on the inside of Black Celebration “Life In The So-Called Space Age”
just a sub title for the album
It is so ugly I can hardly believe it to be just a detail…
In an interview, Martin said:
“But if you want a theme, it’s probably ‘songs in the key of space.’”
